Sand Rider Use and Care Guide

Back Rest

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

Do not use the chair during adverse weather conditions such as storms and lightning, as this may result in injury or death. Do not operate the chair on a slope or when you do not have the assistance of another person who is capable of controlling the chair and passenger. Do not climb or descend a ramp diagonally. Pushing someone through sand can be a strain. Assistants should be in good physical health. If you require special equipment for your activities of daily living such as a special cushion, chest or head support, please check with your medical professional before using this chair. The recommended maximum weight limit is 350 pounds. Do not hang items on the push handle or armrests. This may affect the balance of the chair and cause it to tip over backwards, injuring the occupant or assistant.

Make sure that the clamping knobs are securely fastened before use. Be careful not to cross thread the clamping knobs. Knobs should screw in with very light pressure. Reposition the knobs and or frame parts if they do not tighten in easily.

Do not over inflate tires. Tires should be squishy. Tires are shipped with the ideal pressure of 2.5 psi. Use a bicycle pump to add air if needed. Do not use compressed air. Over inflation voids the Wheeleez™ warranty and impairs tire function.

The Sand Rider is not a boat or life saving device. Use of a life jacket is required for non-swimmers and in some areas may be required by law. Do not use in more than 10 inches of water. Do not operate in areas of wave action or where strong currents are present. Unexpected waves can cause the chair to lose stability due to the floatation of the wheels and the user can fall into the water and/or tip over. Do not use the seatbelt (if equipped) in water because this may delay an emergency exit. Do not tow the chair behind any device or vehicle.

Intended Use: Sand Rider is intended as adaptive recreational equipment for short duration use in transporting persons across sandy or uneven terrain. It is not intended to be used as a boat, or as a life saving device or to replace a person’s primary wheelchair.

REAR WHEELS

Rear axleshave a bolt on the outer edge. To insert the rear wheels, lay the wheel on a flat surface with the Wheeleez™ letters facing up. Push the end of the axle without the bolt through the wheel. If the axle is difficult to push through the wheel, tap it with a rubber mallet. When it has gone through the wheel assembly, insert it in the axle housing tube. Once the axle is inserted, grab the bolt end of the axle and rotate the axle until the holes line up.Insert the wire loop pin and hook the wire loop over the pin securely.

ADJUSTING THE FOOTREST

Loosen the metal thumbscrews under the footrest bar. Slide the clamps and the rubber o-rings underneath the clamps to the desired position. The 0-rings fit snugly so some force may be required. Wetting the front fork with water may help. (Do not use oil based lubricant). Retighten the clamp thumbscrews being sure to keep the end of the clamp securely underneath the thumbscrew

ADJUSTING THE SEAT BELT (IF EQUIPPED)

Pull or push additional webbing through the clip to allow secure positioning of the seatbelt without pinching

ARMRESTS

Armrests have a notch that allows them to lock in place in the forward or rear positions. To allow easy entry, lift and swing the armrest toward the rear. After the occupant is seated, lift and rotate the armrest back to the front. Armrests are not attached to the frame. Do not use armrests for lifting the chair.

BRAKE (IF EQUIPPED)

The brake may be applied by either the occupant’s hand or the assistant’s hand or foot. After use, engage the brake to relieve tension on the spring.

CUP/UMBRELLA/FISHING ROD HOLDER (IF EQUIPPED)

The cup holder may be repositioned by unscrewing both bolts underneath the armrest cover. Retain the bolts and nylon washers. Reinstall cup holder on the opposite side, underneath the armrest cover. Use the longest bolt underneath the cup holder and tighten securely.

MAINTAINING YOUR SAND RIDER

Rinse the Sand Rider with fresh water after every use and allow to air dry,especially before storage.To keep your Sand Rider functioning at its best, perform each of the following at least once annually (more often if you notice a problem):

Frame: If handle or front fork is difficult to insert, lubricate prongs witha dry lubricant(for example: Blaster Dry Lube- (available at Home Depot and Amazon).Twist knobs: (the four main knobs used to assemble the chair)clean and lubricate the threads with a little dry lubricant. Be careful to wipe off any excess. Twist the knobs in and out twice to lubricate the inside threads. Be careful not to cross thread the clamping knobs. Knobs should screw in with very light pressure. Reposition the knobs if they do not tighten in easily.

Wheels and axles: Remove the retaining clips from all three axles and slide them out. Remove the axles from the wheels. Rinse the axles, the axle tubes and the inside of the wheels thoroughly with water. If axles are rough, sand themlightly with fine sand paper or steel wool, then clean, lubricate and reassemble. Remember to fasten all retainer clips when reassembling.

Brakes: Thoroughly flush brakes after each use and coat with an anti-corrosive spray such as WD-40. If brakes become difficult to operate, actuate the brake several times while flushing the unit with fresh water to wash the sand out of the unit.

Upholstery: To extend the life of the upholstery, do not store it in direct sunlight and avoid direct contact with oil-based products, which may cause accelerated aging of fabric. For cleaning the upholstery use 1 tbsp. liquid dish detergent and 2 tbsp. household bleach in one gallon of water. Clean fabric with a sponge or soft cloth dipped in that solution. Rinse thoroughly with clear water and air dry. Regular cleaning will help extend the life of the fabric.

Limited Warranty: Sand Rider warrants the frame and all components except tires and wheels to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of three years from date of purchase. Wheels and tires are warranted for a period of 6 months for consumers, 3 months for third parties where the equipment is used in a rental business.

Limitations and exclusions from this warranty:Damage due to normal wear and tear, negligence, accident, natural disaster or user modification of the product is specifically excluded from this warranty. This warranty does not include any shipping charges incurred for replacement or repair.

SAND RIDER SPECIFICATIONS

Materials:

Frame: Powder coated*aluminum 1.7” diameter frame, 1.3” diameter push handle and armrests

Upholstery*: Sling quality vinyl coated polyester, UV stable, Microban® antimicrobial protection, GREENGUARD® Select Certified

Fasteners: 316 stainless steel bolts and nuts with nylon washers

Wheels: Wheeleez™ low pressure polyurethane tires, polypropylene hub, 1” bearing (*Custom upholstery fabrics and framecoating materials may vary)

ASSEMBLING/DISASSEMBLING THE CHAIR COMPONENTS:

BACK REST

Insert back rest in seat frame by inserting one side and then gently stretching to the other. Align the clamping knob threads with the holes in the frame and backrest. Be careful not to cross thread the clamping knobs. Knobs should screw in with very light pressure. Reposition the knobs and or frame parts if they do not tighten in easily. Make sure that the clamping knobs are securely fastened before use. To disassemble, unscrew clamping knobs and remove them. Lift backrest off frame.

FRONT FORK

Tip unit backwards on to the backrest. Insert the front fork into the seat frame. Align the clamping knob threads with the holes in the seat frame and front fork. Be careful not to cross thread the clamping knobs. Knobs should screw in with very light pressure. Reposition the knobs and or frame parts if they do not tighten in easily. Make sure that the clamping knobs are securely fastened before use. To disassemble, unscrew clamping knobs and remove them. Lift the front fork off the seat frame.

FRONT WHEEL

Place the front axle partly through the right axle housing with the axle hole to the right. Insert the front tire between the two front axle housings. You may need to wiggle it and turn the tire a little sideways. Push the axle through the wheel and then through the other axle housing. If difficult to push, tap the axle with a rubber mallet.Once the axle is inserted, rotate the wheel and axle until the hole in the axle lines up with the hole in the axle housing. Insert the wire loop pin and hook the wire loop over the pin securely. To remove the wheel, remove the wire loop pin, tap out axle to one side and pull out wheel.
